Dyad 2
Through color, light, texture and form, I explore the relationships between mother, baby and time. In “Dyad 2,” the two papers are loosely woven together, reflecting the dynamic relationship that mother and baby are sorting out in the first months after birth, where both individuals are deeply connected yet finding ways to be comfortable and held together. Each hand-stitched square looks like a different color thread depending on how the light hits it, but the piece is stitched in a single color which emphasizes mother and baby’s interconnection. This interplay between color and light is physical, requiring the viewer to shift around the piece or watch as natural light moves across the embroidery throughout the day. It asks the viewer to see for themselves how these subtle and dynamic elements determine both interconnection and autonomy.
